Research Associate II

Summary of Position

Quiver is seeking a highly motivated Research Associate to join our Imaging Group. The Research Associate will execute high-quality functional phenotypic measurements using Quiver’s proprietary Firefly instruments, Optopatch assays, and other custom instrumentation for disease-modeling and drug discovery. The Research Associate will also assist with cell and molecular biology-related tasks (basic cell culture, DNA and RNA preparations, and qPCR assays) as well maintenance of Quiver’s custom instruments.

Responsibilities and Duties

  • Support the following functional imaging activities:
    • Review experimental design forms and communicate changes when necessary
    • Preparation of metadata excel file and plate map files
    • Perform all-optical electrophysiology recordings of neuronal cultures
    • Generation of preliminary results with MATLAB
  • Prepare and manage inventory of large batches of imaging buffers for Optopatch measurements.
  • Organizing on-line imaging and instrument schedule.
  • Assist in day-to-day preparation of screening instrumentation.
  • Use liquid handling system for plate washing and compound loading.
  • Generation and implementation of Standard Operating Procedures and management of imaging operations including inventory and re-stocking of supplies.
  • Log results and processes electronically.
  • Assist the Biology Team with human stem cell culture, neuronal production and culture, nucleic acid preparations and quantitative PCR assays.
  • Collaborate with the Analysis Team in processing and QC of functional movie files and report generation.
  • Communicate work results via technical reports and PowerPoint presentations.
  • Assist Engineering Team with QC of functional imaging instruments.
  • Assist with compound handling tasks including preparation of compound stocks and near assay-ready plates.

Minimum Qualifications Required

  • A Bachelor’s degree in chemistry, biology, biotechnology, bioengineering or a related field.
  • Experience operating scientific, medical, engineering instrumentation or equivalent.
  • Experience working in a laboratory setting and performing routine laboratory procedures
  • Ability to work independently and in cross-disciplinary teams
  • Excellent oral, written and interpersonal communication skills

Additional Qualifications Desired

  • Experience reading and editing code in MATLAB
  • Knowledge of electrophysiology is a plus
  • Experience with imaging assays is a plus
  • Experience will cell culture, 96/384-well assays, and high-throughput screening is a plus
