Scientist

As a member of the Cell Biology Department, the Scientist works under the supervision of
Quiver Bioscience’s Head of Biology to design and execute human stem cell culture, neuronal
production, and molecular biology work for Quiver Bioscience’s multiple customer-based and
R&D projects. Major responsibilities and duties include: Work closely with teams across
different departments to support multiple customer-based and R&D projects.

Manage following cell culture laboratory operations: experimental design and execution of
neuronal plating and long-term culture. Differentiation of human induced pluripotent stem (iPS)
cells into various types of neurons, including excitatory, inhibitory, motor and sensory neurons,
using both transcriptional programing and small molecule-mediated directed differentiation
methods. Troubleshooting of cell culture experiments. Inventory and ordering of cell culture and
molecular biology reagents. Documentation of experimental methods and results using physical
and electronic lab notebooks. Design and execute molecular biology assays (DNA/RNA
preparations, PCR and quantitative PCR) to characterize the genotype and gene expression
profiles of neuronal cultures. Manage Quiver’s gene construct production and QC pipeline which
provides molecular reagents for the delivery of gene constructs for all projects. Lead efforts to
improve existing human neuronal differentiation protocols and establish novel assays for the
production of additional neuronal types. Manage assigned cell culture and molecular biology
projects by keeping track of milestones as per timeline and communicate project updates with
other members of the cell biology team. Prepare scientific reports and participate in scientific
and technical group meetings. Assist in optimizing techniques and SOPs, orientation and training
of new research staff. Other duties as assigned.
Requirements: Master’s degree in biology, cell biology, biotechnology, bioengineering, or
related. 1 year of hands-on experience with mammalian cell culture and 1 year of hands-on
experience with basic molecular biology methods like DNA/RNA preparations and PCR.
Other special requirements: hands-on experience with human induced pluripotent stem cell
culture; experience with quantitative PCR methods and immunocytochemistry; experience with
HEK293 culture and transfection methods; ability to work independently and in cross-functional
teams; and excellent oral, written, and interpersonal communication skills.
